Jakarta - The Indonesian government has designated the name Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed (MBZ) as the name of the Flyover for the Jakarta-Cikampek II (Elevated) Toll Road. The inauguration of the naming of the longest flyover in Indonesia was carried out by the Minister of State Secretary Pratikno on Monday (12/4/2021) at the location of the access to the Cikampek Highway Km 10 A Jakarta - Cikampek Highway.

The inauguration of the change in the name of the flyover was marked by pressing the siren button by the Minister of State Secretary Pratikno accompanied by the Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Obaid Al Dhaheri, the Indonesian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Husin Bagis, and the President Director of PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk Subakti Syukur.

In his remarks, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno said the background for naming the MBZ Flyover Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed is a tribute to the United Arab Emirates (UEA) which has established diplomatic relations in the social, cultural and economic fields for 45 years with Indonesia. In the economic sector, the UAE is one of the countries with the largest investment in Indonesia, especially in the infrastructure sector. Previously, the name of President Joko Widodo had also been declared as the name of one of the strategic toll roads in the oil-producing country.

"We also need to convey beforehand that President Joko Widodo's street name has also been proclaimed in Abu Dhabi on a strategic road between the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center to the embassy complex. This is also a tribute to the Indonesian nation given by the UAE government, especially Sheikh Mohamed. Bin Zayed. So that's the background of this name change, "he said.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR, Hedy Rahardian, in his report said that this name change was determined through the Minister of Public Works and Housing Decree number 417 KPTSM dated April 8, 2021. Where the decision determined the name of the Jakarta Cikampek II Elevated toll road to be the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed flyover. "With the inauguration of this street name, hopefully it can improve cooperation and diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the UAE," he explained.

According to Hedy, the elevated Jakarta Cikampek II toll road has a length of 36.4 kilometers, of which construction has been in progress since early 2017 and was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on December 12, 2019. "With a traffic density of 200 thousand vehicles per day, this route is the lifeblood of the Indonesian economy and is located in a rapidly developing industrial and residential area east of Jakarta," he said.
Meanwhile, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Obaid Aldaheri expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian government. The Jakarta - Cikampek II (Elevated) Toll Road is the longest elevated toll road in Indonesia that stretches from the Cikunir Junction area to West Karawang and crosses several existing crossing buildings in the form of Overpasses, Pedestrian Bridges (JPO), or Intersections on the Jakarta Toll Road - Existing Cikampek. So that in the construction, adjustments have been made in the form of elevation of the elevated structure while still paying attention to the quality of compliance with applicable technical provisions and requirements.

The Japek II Elevated Toll Road, which has been operating, has become one of the solutions to congestion that often occurs in these vital sections. The Japek II Elevated toll road is the longest elevated toll road in Indonesia and is the first double decker motorway in Indonesia because it is built on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road. The purpose of the construction of this toll road is to separate the Jakarta-Bekasi-Cikarang short-distance commuter movement (collector / existing lanes) from long-distance movements to Cirebon, Bandung, Semarang and Surabaya (express / elevated lanes), especially class I non-buses .

The construction of the Japek Layang Toll Road was carried out by the contractor PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk together with PT Acset Indonusa Tbk (Joint Operation). The concession is carried out by the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) PT Jasamarga Jalanlayang Cikampek (JJC) which is a subsidiary of PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk with an investment value of Rp. 16.2 Trillion.
