The Pandaan-Malang Toll Road Inauguration by President Joko Widodo
Malang (5/13) - Pandaan-Malang Toll Road was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo on Monday (5/13) at Singosari Toll Gate, Singosari Sub-district, Malang Regency.
The inauguration of three Pandaan-Malang Toll segments, with an overall length of 30.625 km, was marked by a siren and inscription signing by the President, accompanied by the Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono, the Minister of the State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) Rini Soemarno, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa as well as the council for provincial and lower-level government officials, Director General of Highways Sugiyartanto, Head of Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) Danang Parikesit and President Director of PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk. Desi Arryani, as well as Jasa Marga's Board of Directors.
President Joko Widodo, in his mandate, said that Pandaan-Malang Toll Road will optimally operate without tariffs up to Eid holiday.
“I have personally discussed this with the Minister of SOEs who has consented to free the road from tariffs until Eid and let the surrounding community luxuriate in the nontariff road,” said the President.
As the agents of nationwide developments, Minister of SOE Rini M. Soemarno acknowledged SOEs' key role in land connectivity and widespread economy.
“I express my gratitude to Jasa Marga and PT PP as the contractor. I strongly encourage the entire project to complete soon. Mr. President has also requested for the best community service. The toll road has therefore operated publicly without any charge until Eid holiday," said Minister Rini.
Meanwhile, Khofifah Indar Parawansa hopes that Pandaan-Malang Toll Road will regulate transportations and mobility from Pandaan to Malang which links directly to Surabaya and vice versa.
“The toll road also plays a big role in linking Malang to the congested Surabaya, particularly during weekends or holidays, when a lot of citizens visit the tourist area at Malang Raya,” explained Khofifah.
Even if it's not a part of Trans Java Toll Road, Pandaan-Malang Toll Road is one of the National Strategic Projects (PSNs). Jasa Marga's President Director Desi Arryani explained that the toll road will cut down the duration of time to travel between Surabaya and Malang from 4 - 5 hours to 1 - 1.5 hours.
“This will certainly generate a more efficient mobilization of goods and services, encouraging the growth of surrounding industry and tourism,” Desi explained.
The 38.488-km inaugurated Pandaan-Malang Toll Road consists of three segments, i.e., the 15.475-km Pandaan-Purwodadi Segment 1, the 8.50-km Purwodadi-Lawang Segment 2 and the 7.51-km Lawang-Singosari Segment 3. The 4.75-km Singosari-Pakis Segment 4 will still be functional by the 2019 Eid post-homebound holiday while the 3.113-km Pakis-Malang Segment 5 is still under construction.
Jasa Marga, PT Pembangunan Perumahan (Persero) and PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (Persero) own 60%, 35%, and 5% of the shares, respectively, of Pandaan-Malang Toll Road, managed by PT Jasamarga Pandaan Malang (JPM).
PT JPM President Director Agus Purnomo further elaborates that Pandaan-Malang Toll Road will operate without charge beginning May 14, 2019, at 7 a.m.
"The nontariff operation of Pandaan-Malang Toll Road will optimally shed light to the public on the existence of the toll road up to the moment when the PUPR Minister will set the tariff rate," he concluded.
