About
The previously 43-km toll road had been operational since 1986. But, after the Lapindo Brantas Inc. mud disaster, Porong-Gempol segment experienced a six-kilometer cleavage. Thus, the government had decided to close the segment, shortening the toll road into 37 km.
In 2005 the daily average traffic volume reached 173,300 vehicles and slumped to 147,200 in 2007 after the 2006-mud submersion. But in 2008 the daily traffic volume rebounded to 156,000 vehicles per day. Nevertheless, the toll's revenue continues to increase despite the 2006-decreased traffic volume. In 2006/2007, daily toll revenues remain 10.32 percent higher, i.e., Rp 312 million, and increased in 2008 to Rp 402.325 million per day.
Given the importance of this segment, Jasa Marga decided to shift the mud-submerged segment 3 kilometers to the west. Therefore, the six-kilometer shifted segment will be 10 kilometers long. This Trans Java toll-network segment will connect to Pasuruan, Probolinggo and to Banyuwangi.
